I heard this story today and reminded me to upload this mix from a while back. This was the second half of a two-parter but I can’t find the first half.
Anyway the story goes something like this:
It’s about this kid, around 17, ready to go off into the world of higher education.
And so he applied to the big ones, the Oxbridge and Camford Universities, the Red Brick Institutions, set his goals high. And so in his application the lad puts down his interests and hobbies.
Now most people bullshit their interest with crap like “I like to read” or “I like to socialise with my friends” which in fact means you read the cereal packet to send off your tokens and hang out on street corners getting looks off curb crawlers.
But this dude is all honest and puts down that he’s a big Dungeons & Dragons player; he likes rolling them die and fantasising roles to play.
His dad is like “No one cares about your games” It’s like putting down your gamerscore on your CV. This was before Television, when the world was black and white and kids would collect glass milk bottles for half pennies, shillings and crowns.
So this chap goes for an interview at Cambridge, and comes out beaming. His dad is curious at his socially inept son’s ability to move his mouth sideways; his son recounts how the Don at Cambridge read about the D&D in his application and spent the next 3 hours in the interview discussing Dwarf abilities or wearing wizard hats or something of that nature.
The boy gave two fingers to Cambridge in the end, did some other course at some 2-bit University; but he’s ended up working for a major video game company making MMORPG’s or FPS’s or STFU’s or TL:DR’s.
Goes to show: be honest, do what you fucking love and screw Cambridge.

This is a nice little dancey mix, with beeps and boings, and an accidental ‘ding’ in Sexyback which I don’t know the origin. But I buzzz beepy tunes, so crank the bass and have fun. Next few mixes will have some tips for MMIX: first one in here is Adrian Lux. He’s all Swedish and part of this new dance movement trying to bring Techno back. I think Little Boots is getting attention now, she’s from Blackpool and hopefully if she pulls her finger out will have an album this year. I saw The Young Punx in Osaka and recommend their mash ups and shit.
People have been enjoying the cold snap; where I live now has a microclimate that is nice and toasty so I haven’t seen any snow apart from in my freezer. It does mean that the night have big fat moons and shiny little dots that paint the barren sky.

It’s the end of the year.
It’s nearly the end of the decade too.
This mix runs in at nearly 90 minutes, and jumps from being pretty 130 bpm to 90 bpm to whatever bpm it feels like.
Check out the Nightmare Revisted album because I said so. It’s the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack re-envisioned by artist like RJD2, Rodrigo Y Gabriela and Datarock.
Oh and there’s this film out by Danny Boyle called Slumdog Millionnaire which is pretty badass and has some M.I.A. and that kid from Skins and Anil “Mr India” Kapoor.

When I started a few years back, my short attention span meant fast switches and harsh blends; I was encouraged to play tracks out but some do last for more than 5 minutes by which time I’m burned out. So this one’s a return to form, 30-something tracks over 70 minutes. I don’t think most people will like the shift in styles.
This one is a celebration of the songs that rocked my socks over the year(s), so expect some hits and misses. I was right on with Katy Perry back on CrookedTailbone.
Keep your eyes out for The Amber Gamblers take on Feist. I love that track and always wanted it to be included on one of the sets that appears here. The ‘Gamblers include my wonderful friend Mr Alex, who has the best rabbit ever, Rambo. Check out the other stuff; my favourite track is still Sex Education.
I was not impressed by Jay-Zed’s new track but it was included to see what you think. He burns Noel “that bloke from Oasis” Gallagher on it. Nas’ album is pretty good so when the Blueprint III comes out it’ll be an interesting comparison.

Sometimes I have difficulty sleeping. You know, close your eyes but there’s no movies playing. Not even a trailer.
Sometimes I’ll listen to something to help me sleep. Sort of like foreplay, only without the sore tongue.
Anyway, this set is no bedtime story.
Not to begin with anyway, this is all movie music or things you heard in a commercial sometime ago. So it’s all stuff you know from sometime or another and should induce some sort of memory hooked up to that song.
